Some people in this life are truly born to ROCK – Kai Rutherford embodies that statement.
Originally born in Oslo, Norway, Kai quickly latched onto to the defining, classic-sounds of Rock-music that has made the genre timeless. Growing up listening to and being influenced by legendary bands and entertainers like The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Mink de Ville, Tom Petty & many more – young Kai took an early interest in all kinds of music & continued to quickly absorb his life into it.
Kai started his first band, The Loyds, at the age of 13 and has built a strong musical resume throughout his life as an entertainer & performer ever since. Challenging himself at every moment to learn more and try new things in music to round-out & refine his natural talent – he joined Dr. Decibel as their lead-singer and gigged throughout southern Norway from the mid-eighties to the early nineties. With a whole new set of skills, exposure and experience now under his belt – Kai would goon from here to make the most essential moves of his music-career and truly lay the groundwork for his future.
Taking an important role on the other side of the studio-boards, Kai started-up at the VOX Recording Studio and worked as a producer/engineer on a ton of Pop/Rock projects over nearly a ten-year span. With intense knowledge and respect for the musical process in all forms, his time at VOX developed quickly into invaluable experience that Kai would continue to use throughout the rest of his career.
Soon after almost a decade spent at VOX, Kai perhaps made the biggest move for his music yet to-date by moving just outside the little village of Son, just 50km south of Norway. As he began to settle into his new surroundings, he played shows & made guest appearances with several bands, briefly joined the Prodigal Sons (2009-2012) and even went on two separate tours to Southeast Asia for biker & blues festivals filled with the real Rock sound that Kai thrives & survives in. He’d go on to step-in as the frontman for the band Strange Brew and played stages & gigs throughout Norway from 2013-2015.
It’s never just been ‘music’ to him – Rock has been an entire lifestyle for Ka i Rutherford; it’s led him to the quintessential road-life of an authentically passionate performer…over time, he’s stepped foot in 41 different countries and over 800 cities in effort to entertain music-lovers worldwide. One of the most pivotal and important destinations that he travelled to was Nashville, Tennessee to attend what would become a completely life-changing artist/performance conference and subsequent trip down south into the heartland of the Blues. It was on this very journey that Kai gained the true inspiration to break through to that next-level; he decided to go solo and began to collaborate with high-quality musicians and exceptional talent from all over the world.
With two full-albums released in 2016 – Kai Rutherford has assembled a lifetime of songwriting and passion into his material. First releasing Running Out Of Time, followed by Outsider – both albums highlight the melodies, rock & rhythm that Kai has been working on throughout the past eighteen years. Through the combination of confidence, skill and experience he’s gained from his travels – the songs on these records tell the tales of those journeys along the way that brought him to the stage as a solo-artist today. Recorded in the VOX studio – Kai dives deep into relatable & timeless themes that truly resonate with listeners as he details the bold & beautiful just as strongly as the dark & emotionally complex experiences we all collectively share.
Recreating a pure strain of rock with 70’s, Blues and Country styles with songs that were written long ago – it wasn’t until now that the journey had come full-circle to bring Kai Rutherford to the point where he was ready to step into the brightness of the spotlight as a solo-artist. Now that he’s arrived…with two albums out and an army of musicians willing to collaborate…the full scope and vision he’s had for his music all along has truly come to life; honest, passionate, authentic and most importantly REAL – exactly how he always wanted it to sound.
